A woman and young boy have been found dead in a house in Suffolk.
A member of the public reported finding the bodies at a house on Park Avenue, Newmarket, at 18:00 BST on Friday.
Neighbours said the boy was believed to be aged under 10, while an eyewitness told the Newmarket Journal a woman came out of a property “in tears”.
Detectives continue to investigate the circumstances of the deaths and said the woman and child’s next of kin had been informed.
The force has appealed for anyone who may have seen or heard anything in the area during the day to contact them.
Officers are not looking for anyone else in connection with the deaths.
A semi-detached two-storey house has been cordoned off and a Volkswagen Golf hatchback is parked across the pavement behind police tape.
One neighbour, who lives opposite, said: “I came home last night about 20:00 BST and there were feds (police) everywhere.
“They were here all night, I think, and forensics were going in and out.”
He said he knew the woman by sight but had only spoken to her once.
“She, like everyone I suppose, kept herself to herself.
“She was probably early 30s.
“The boy seemed happy enough though. He was a youngster, maybe seven or eight. He was always smiling every time I saw him.”
Another couple, who also live on Park Avenue, said they had seen the boy playing in the nearby park.
They said: “There are a lot of rented houses on this street so a lot of people come and go.”
An elderly resident added: “I’ve been here for 60 years and it’s quite a quiet street.
“Very sad though, isn’t it. Tragic.
“We had an old lady’s suicide a few doors down but that was several years ago now.
“There are so many new people moving in and out of here. I daresay I knew her by sight, but I didn’t know her.”
The street remains cordoned off by police.
